Brittny Branaman

Deputy Director of the Underground Infrastructure Directorate

Effective January 1, 2026, Brittny Branaman was promoted to Deputy Director of the Underground Infrastructure Directorate. Brittny oversees operations of the Underground Safety Board, including statewide policy, enforcement of the Dig Safe Act, and public safety programs.

Brittny began her public service career at CAL FIRE as an Associate Personnel Analyst (APA). She later served as the Admin Officer for 11 regulatory programs at the Office of the State Fire Marshal, where her responsibilities spanned budgets, policy analysis, and administration. Additionally, Brittny oversaw the Fire Marshal’s peace officer background investigation program.

Brittny also serves on the Board of Directors for the California Regional Common Ground Alliance (CARCGA), where she represents the state regulator perspective. She collaborates with industry partners to advance underground damage prevention efforts across California.

At the Underground Safety Board, Brittny has led the administration of statewide excavation safety policy and programs. She has overseen investigation and enforcement processes, directed education and outreach initiatives, and supported the Board’s public meetings and decision-making through staff analysis and stakeholder coordination. Most recently, Brittny has served as Acting Executive Officer since July 2024, providing executive leadership and operational oversight for the Board and its staff.
