SACRAMENTO – Energy Safety today issued an Annual Performance Report (formerly called an Annual Report on Compliance) for the Bear Valley Electric Service (BVES) 2024 Wildfire Mitigation Plan (WMP). Energy Safety’s annual performance report is a comprehensive assessment of the implementation of the BVES 2024 WMP and its wildfire risk reduction initiatives.
In 2024, BVES completed 64 of 68 WMP initiatives (94%). This was nine percent higher than 2023, when BVES completed 55 of 65 WMP initiatives (85%). Energy Safety did not find any systemic problems that hindered BVES’s ability to adequately meet its 2024 WMP commitments.
However, Energy Safety’s assessment revealed instances where BVES had data consistency issues and failed to foresee planning constraints that resulted in missed initiatives. Energy Safety acknowledges that in 2024, BVES undertook efforts to reduce its wildfire risk, yet there are still areas upon which to improve and opportunities to continue learning, especially given the missed initiative targets and data consistency issues.
Energy Safety will continue to monitor BVES’s implementation of its ongoing wildfire mitigation activities, its planning activities, and its ability to forecast implementation constraints so that BVES improves its ability to eliminate utility-caused catastrophic wildfires in California.
