Pursuant to Public Utilities Code Section 8389(d)(3), annually, by December 1st, the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC), after consultation with Energy Safety, shall adopt and approve a Wildfire Mitigation Plan Compliance Process.
The inaugural process began in 2020 when Energy Safety was known as the Wildfire Safety Division within the CPUC. On November 19, 2020, the CPUC adopted the Wildfire Mitigation Plan Compliance Process in appendix).
Prior to issuing the final version, on September 18, 2020, a Draft Wildfire Mitigation Plan Compliance Process was issued for consideration. Comments on the proposed Draft Wildfire Mitigation Plan Compliance Process were received from the following stakeholders:

- Protect Our Communities Foundation
- Public Advocates Office
- Small Business Utility Advocates
Pursuant to statutory requirements, this process will continue annually, and Energy Safety looks forward to engaging with all interested stakeholders to continuously improve and refine this process.

Compliance Operational Protocols
This letter defines annual and quarterly reporting requirements for all ECs [Pursuant to Public Utilities Code (PUC) 8386.3(c)(1) and PUC 8389(e)(7)], and provides guidance to ECs on the contents, format, and timing of the annual and quarterly reports. The Wildfire Safety Division (WSD) will use the reports to ensure ECs are taking effective actions to reduce EC-related wildfire risk.
