Sept. 16, 2026
Sacramento – The Office of Energy Infrastructure Safety (Energy Safety) today issued its Annual Performance Report (formerly Annual Report on Compliance) for San Diego Gas and Electric’s (SDG&E) 2024 Wildfire Mitigation Plan (WMP).
Energy Safety’s annual performance report is a comprehensive assessment of the implementation of SDG&E’s 2024 WMP and its wildfire risk reduction initiatives. SDG&E completed only 33 of 59 (56%) initiatives and has a year-over-year trend of missing targets.
Regarding missed targets in 2024 for strategic undergrounding, transmission overhead hardening, advanced protection, communication reliability improvements, strategic pole replacement, and standby power, similar targets were missed more than once from 2020 to 2023.
In missing its 2024 initiative targets SDG&E failed to reduce its wildfire risk in the manner committed to customers and the people of California. Going forward, SDG&E must demonstrate successful initiative completion to reflect reduced wildfire risk for the safety of its customers and for all Californians.
Energy Safety will continue to push SDG&E to improve its performance and will report on any failures the company has in achieving its objectives to eliminate utility-caused catastrophic wildfire in California.
