Energy Safety Approves 2025 Wildfire Mitigation Plan Update for Southern California Edison

SACRAMENTO – The Office of Energy Infrastructure Safety (Energy Safety) today released its evaluation and approval of Southern California Edison’s (SCE) 2025 Wildfire Mitigation Plan (WMP) Update.

Energy Safety found that SCE is improving its risk models in ways that are expected to more accurately calculate wildfire risk in its service territory. SCE also has areas for continued improvement that include exploring probability distributions to improve risk models, requirements for collaboration with relevant parties, and new reporting requirements for transmission inspections.

Energy Safety expects SCE to effectively implement its wildfire mitigation activities to reduce the risk of utility-related ignitions and to ultimately achieve the elimination of utility-caused catastrophic wildfires in California.

The 2025 WMP Updates of San Diego Gas and Electric and Bear Valley Electric Service were approved on Oct. 30 and Oct. 21, respectively. Additional decisions on 2025 WMP Updates for the remaining electrical corporations will be released in the coming weeks.
