SACRAMENTO – The Office of Energy Infrastructure Safety (Energy Safety) today released its evaluation and approval of San Diego Gas and Electric’s (SDG&E) 2025 Wildfire Mitigation Plan (WMP) Update.
Energy Safety found that SDG&E is improving its risk models and increasing its targets in four initiatives that will further reduce wildfire risk (including hotline clamp and expulsion fuse replacement).
SDG&E also has areas for continued improvement that include incorporating extreme wind into wildfire mitigation planning, reporting on reliability improvements, and ongoing evaluation of joint studies in grid hardening and vegetation management.
Energy Safety expects SDG&E to effectively implement its wildfire mitigation activities to reduce the risk of utility-related ignitions and to ultimately achieve the elimination of utility-caused catastrophic wildfires in California.
The Bear Valley Electric Service 2025 WMP Update was approved on Oct. 21. Additional decisions on 2025 WMP Updates for the remaining electrical corporations will be released in the coming weeks.
