Process will consider escalating climate impacts and elevated wildfire risk
SACRAMENTO – The Office of Energy Infrastructure Safety (Energy Safety) seeks public input in its review of electrical infrastructure safety requirements amid escalating climate impacts and elevated wildfire risk. Energy Safety’s review, pursuant to PUC Sec. 326(a)(7), will focus on, “…safety requirements for electrical transmission and distribution infrastructure and infrastructure and equipment attached to that electrical infrastructure…”
Energy Safety, in collaboration with the Wildfire Safety Advisory Board (WSAB), CAL FIRE, and the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC), is planning a public workshop(s) to gather input from stakeholders, including the general public, California’s electrical corporations, and other interested parties in its review of existing electrical infrastructure safety requirements and in the development of recommendations.
Addressing climate impacts and the need to mitigate wildfire risk will inform the review process. Following its review, Energy Safety will propose recommendations in a report that will be submitted to the CPUC.
Although specific dates for public workshop(s) have not been identified, those who are interested in participating should begin developing ideas to bring to the table for discussion.
