Energy Safety Issues Safety Culture Assessments Report for California’s Electrical Corporations

SACRAMENTO – The Office of Energy Infrastructure Safety (Energy Safety) today released its Safety Culture Assessments (SCA) Report for California’s nine electrical corporations.

Electrical corporations are required to conduct SCAs (with a third-part facilitator) to evaluate their organizational growth toward building strong, sustainable, safety cultures. Passage of SB 254 (Becker/Petrie-Norris) in September, and signed into law by Gov, Newsom in October, now requires the SCAs to be conducted every two years rather than annually. Energy Safety consolidates the assessments into a single report of findings and recommendations for each electrical corporation.

By agreeing to implement the findings and recommendations of its most recent SCA, an electrical corporation is considered to be in “good standing,” one of the eligibility requirements for a safety certification, now known under SB 254 and PUC 8389(a) as a certificate. Certificate FAQ.
