California’s Underground Safety Board Releases Draft Standard Safety Practices for Potholing, Solicits Public Comment

SACRAMENTO – California’s Underground Safety Board today released its Draft Standard Safety Practices for Potholing for public comment from July 28 to Sept. 9.  The Board welcomes the input of excavators, operators, locators, construction firms, and other interested stakeholders to collect feedback. 

The Draft Standard Safety Practices for potholing address excavating around subsurface installations. These standard safety practices are not intended to replace other relevant standards, including the Common Ground Alliance Best Practices, but are to inform areas currently without established standards. 

Written public comments will be accepted until Wednesday, Sept. 9 at 5 p.m. 

Comments must be submitted to the underground board meetings docket via Energy Safety’s e-filing system, by email to digboard@energysafety.ca.gov with the subject line Standard Practices for Potholing Public Comments,” or by regular mail to:
