Energy Safety Adopts 2024 Safety Culture Assessment Guidelines for Electric Corporations

SACRAMENTO – The Office of Energy Infrastructure Safety (Energy Safety) today adopted its 2024 Safety Culture Assessment Guidelines for Electrical Corporations (SCA Guidelines). Adoption of the SCA Guidelines followed a public meeting and a 30-day public comment period.

California’s electrical corporations must participate in an annual Safety Culture Assessment conducted by Energy Safety to evaluate their growth toward building strong, sustainable safety cultures. The guidelines outline Energy Safety’s process as well as in the electrical corporations’ obligations. Energy Safety conducts safety culture assessments annually to ensure continued safety culture maturity.

Electrical corporations can agree to implement the findings of their safety culture assessments to establish “good standing,” one of seven requirements they must meet for a safety certification.
