SACRAMENTO – The Office of Energy Infrastructure Safety (Energy Safety) today released its evaluation and approval of Pacific Gas & Electric’s (PG&E) 2025 Wildfire Mitigation Plan (WMP) Update.
Energy Safety found that PG&E is increasing its risk reduction by setting a more aggressive open work order closeout target and that its vegetation management programs are maturing in response to Energy Safety’s previously issued areas of continual improvement.
However, PG&E’s WMP has areas that can be further developed and improved. Energy Safety identified 15 areas for continued improvement for which PG&E is required to demonstrate progress in its 2026-2028 Base WMP submittal. These include further development of its ignition risk analysis, the evaluation of the safety impacts related to Enhanced Powerline Safety Settings, and the continuation of cross-utility collaboration.
Energy Safety expects PG&E to effectively implement its wildfire mitigation activities to reduce the risk of utility-related ignitions and to ultimately achieve the elimination of utility-caused catastrophic wildfires in California.
The 2025 WMP Updates of Southern California Edison, San Diego Gas and Electric, and Bear Valley Electric Service were approved on Oct. 31, Oct. 30, and Oct. 21, respectively. Additional decisions on 2025 WMP Updates for the remaining electrical corporations will be released in the coming weeks.
