Energy Safety and CPUC to Hold Public Briefings on Utility Safety Practices, Take Public Comment

SAN FRANCISCO  –  The Office of Energy Infrastructure Safety (Energy Safety) and the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) will hold two public safety briefings (also virtual) on Wed., Aug. 28 from 12:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. and Thurs., Aug. 29 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. in San Francisco. The briefings will feature presentations from five of California’s investor-owned utilities on each of their safety practices, safety performance, and related safety efforts.

 

There will be an opportunity for public comment at the conclusion of each briefing.

 

The Aug. 28 briefing will include presentations from Bear Valley Electric Service (BVES)and Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E).

 

The Aug. 29 briefing will include presentations from Southern California Gas Company (SoCalGas), San Diego Gas & Electric (SDG&E), and Southern California Edison (SCE).

 

Members of the Boards of Directors and senior leadership of BVES, PG&E, SoCalGas, SDG&E, and SCE will present and answer questions from Energy Safety Director Caroline Thomas Jacobs and CPUC Commissioners.

 

These safety briefings are the fourth annual with the CPUC reinforcing the commitment each organization has made to safety and transparency. 

 

The briefings also satisfy the requirement for board-of-director-level reporting under Public Utilities Code section 8389(e)(5) in partial fulfillment of the requirements for a safety certification.
