Energy Safety Issues Annual Report on Compliance for Liberty Utilities’ Approved 2021 Wildfire Mitigation Plan Update

SACRAMENTO – Energy Safety today issued its Annual Report on Compliance (ARC) for the approved 2021 Wildfire Mitigation Plan (WMP) Update of Liberty Utilities (Liberty). Energy Safety’s evaluation found that, although Liberty Utilities experienced unexpected setbacks from the Tamarack and Caldor wildfires, Liberty was moderately successful in executing an actionable and adaptive plan for wildfire risk mitigation given the circumstances.

Energy Safety has identified areas for improvement and continued learning that include ensuring Liberty is consistent in its documentation and reporting of compliance with its WMP. Energy Safety continues to monitor Liberty’s implementation of its ongoing wildfire mitigation activities and push the company to improve its ability to ultimately eliminate utility-caused catastrophic wildfires in California.

Energy Safety is required to conduct an annual assessment of the electrical corporations’ implementation of their approved WMPs and WMP Updates.

ARCs for Trans Bay Cable, Bear Valley Electric Service, Southern California Edison, and San Diego Gas & Electric  were released on June 6, April 23, April 3, and March 19, respectively. Additional ARCs on approved 2021 WMP Updates for the remaining electrical corporations are scheduled to be released in the coming weeks.
