California’s Underground Safety Board Unanimously Elects Bill Johns as Board Chair and Travis Clausen as Vice Chair

SACRAMENTO – California’s Underground Safety Board Vice Chair Bill Johns and Board Member Travis Clausen were unanimously elected Board Chair and Vice Chair, respectively, during the Board’s meetings in April and July.

Board members hold leadership positions for one calendar year with members eligible to retain the chair position for a two-year maximum.

Chair Johns has served as vice chair since 2023 and was first appointed to the Board by Governor Edmund G. Brown Jr. on Dec. 18, 2017. Chair Johns, of Huntington Beach, has been vice president at Utility Coordinating Inc. since 2014.

Vice Chair Clausen has served since Feb. 20, 2025, when he was appointed to the Board by Governor Gavin Newsom. Vice Chair Clausen, of Garden Grove, is the regional construction manager for Aviation and Defense at Sully-Miller Contracting Company.
