Energy Safety Approves SDG&E’s 2023-2025 Wildfire Mitigation Plan

Decision Moves to CPUC for Ratification

SACRAMENTO – The Office of Energy Infrastructure Safety (Energy Safety) today released its evaluation and approval of San Diego Gas & Electric’s (SDG&E) 2023-2025 Wildfire Mitigation Plan (WMP). Energy Safety’s SDG&E 2023-2025 WMP Decision moves to the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) for ratification.

Energy Safety’s decision found that SDG&E’s WMP was strong in the areas of vegetation management, situational awareness, emergency preparedness, and community outreach and engagement. Energy Safety’s decision also identified areas of continued improvement for SDG&E’s future WMP updates.

California’s electrical corporations are required to submit three-year WMPs, updated annually, to Energy Safety for review and approval. SDG&E submitted its 2023-2025 WMP in March. In August, Energy Safety released its draft decision of SDG&Es WMP for public comment. Following the incorporation of public comment, Energy Safety released its approval of the plan. Energy Safety WMP decisions move to the CPUC for ratification.

2023-2025 WMPs for the remaining eight electrical corporations (Southern California Edison, Pacific Gas and Electric, PacifiCorp., Bear Valley Electric Service, Liberty Utilities, Horizon West, Trans Bay Cable, and LS Power) are currently under Energy Safety review and evaluation.
